The Atlanta Public Schools Pre-Kindergarten program is funded by the Georgia State Lottery and is governed by Bright from the Start and partners with Head Start at selected locations. APS partners with Bright from the Start to provide age appropriate instructional programs that prepare students for success beyond prekindergarten. Additionally, a nurturing environment is provided to address students' social and emotional needs while preparing students for kindergarten readiness. Our goal is to ensure that all students gain the needed foundational skills to propel them into a successful future.
SY2013-2014, Atlanta Public Schools will have 41 Pre-K classrooms at 34 school sites across the district. We have added an additional site, Hope-Hill Elementary School. The school system continues to serve approximately 850 four-year olds each year. Due to a limited number of seats, a lottery process is used as the fairest method of filling classes. Successful enrollment on the designated enrollment date at your school site is the conclusion of Pre-K registration for school year 2013-2014.

Lottery Process
The 2013-2014 Pre-Kindergarten Lottery was conducted by an outside IT vendor. The applicants’ information was entered into a database. All applications entered were considered. The lottery system randomly selected applicants for a pre-Kindergarten site by the application number. When all classes were filled, those who were not selected were placed on the waiting list of their first choice only. To ensure that this was a fair process, no preferential treatment was given based on school attendance zone or school parental involvement.
Multiple Births Applications
Multiple birth applicants applied for the pre-Kindergarten lottery. Parents completed a multiple birth application. If the applicants’ lottery number was selected and there were available seats at that site, all siblings received a seat at that site. Please contact the Early Learning office if you have questions.
Lottery Results
The lottery took place on April 16th at 5:00 p.m. The results were verified before they were posted. Lottery results are now posted at pre-Kindergarten sites, on the APS website and via U.S. mail to parents.

We ask that you telephone us at 404-802-3640 Option 3. Please note you will be required to provide a written notification.
You may be placed on the waiting list if interested.
Lottery applicants were placed on the waiting list of their 1st choice only. Prospective parents will be contacted via phone only if a seat becomes available. Parents will be called in the order of their placement on the waiting list and given 24 hours to accept or decline the seat. If the seat is not accepted within 24 hours, the next waiting list applicant will be contacted. APS is not responsible for incorrect contact numbers nor the inability to reach prospective parents when called. Please contact the Early Learning office at 404-802-3640 to update any contact numbers that may change.
Enrollment Procedures
Applicants who are selected for Pre-Kindergarten seats are required to attend the enrollment session scheduled in May. See the Enrollment Calendar below for specific dates for each Pre-Kindergarten site. Parents should bring all of the required documents to the enrollment session. Failure to attend the enrollment session may result in loss of the seat. Please contact the Early Learning office if you have questions.
Potential Opportunities
We will begin filling limited seats at sites where there are vacancies. Parents must come in person to Kennedy Middle School at 225 James P. Brawley Drive, NW, Atlanta, Ga. 30314 on Wednesdays from 1:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. and each Wednesday thereafter to secure a potential slot. This is on a first come, first serve basis. There is no guarantee that a slot will be available when you arrive. Additionally, parents may call 404-802-3640 Option 3 to be placed on the waiting list of their choice Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. NOTE: Parents may select only one pre-Kindergarten waiting list location.

Pre-K Lottery ENROLLMENT Guidelines
Parent or Legal Guardian must bring ALL documents requested in your selection letter.
ALL information submitted on the application must be accurate. If selected, the state requires all information be verified during subsequent enrollment.
- At the time of enrollment, if you do not have the required documents, you may risk losing your child's slot.

First Day of school is Wednesday, August 7th.
Pre-K class starts at 8:00am and ends at 2:30pm when all students are dismissed.
