What Makes Perkerson Special?

 

 
We have an attractive, safe and conducive educational learning environment where teachers believe that failure is not an option.  Students have the opportunity to obtain the necessary skills for their future endeavors in small nurturing classrooms.  Parents, teachers, partners, administrators, and all stakeholders work for daily success of every child.

 

Perkerson Elementary is located in Southwest Atlanta.  We have a population of 460 students.  Our school reform is Project Grad (Graduation Really Achieves Dreams).  This year, Perkerson teachers and students will implement the new Common Core standards in Reading/ English Arts and Mathematics. We will introduce a new literacy instuctional blocks The components of the new literacy block are:
  • Interactive Read Aloud
  • Phonics/Word Study/ Academic Vocabulary
  • SharedReading
  • Guided Reading/Centers/Independent Reading 
Perkerson will also unveil a new math instructional block this year. The new math block will include a new and exciting component called "Number Talk". Number Talk will challenge our students to use mental math.
 
We are excited about the 2012-2013 school year.
