George Alexander Towns Elementary School was built in 1962 and opened its doors to students in the Collier Heights community in 1963. Renovations to the present structure took place in 1998 when 13 new classrooms, a state of the art media center, gymnatorium, and several beautiful courtyards were added.
The instructional focus at G. A. Towns Elementary is to foster an environment that will help students reach their full potential. We accomplish this by:
Providing each pupil with experiences of success and accomplishments which will aid him/her in developing a positive self-concept and desire to achieve.
Planning an instructional program to meet the needs of each pupil.
Providing opportunities for parents and the community to get involved with the school instructional program.
Additionally, teachers are encouraged to extend learning through an array of educational activities, such as after school tutoring with an emphasis on math and reading, power writing, and the Saxon Phonics Series.
