![]() June 6, 2013 Dear Sylvan Hills Middle School Community: Now that the 2012-2013 school year has closed, I would like to give you an early welcome to the 2013-2014 school year. As the Principal of Sylvan Hills Middle School, it is a privilege and honor to serve our Sylvan Hills Middle School community. As you are hopefully already aware, we will be relocating to the Parks Middle School campus for the upcoming school year while our building is rebuilt. While this is a change in location, it will not slow us down as we are already busy at work planning for next school year, and I am truly enthusiastic about meeting each new parent/guardian and bringing back those familiar faces from this year. I know that next school year will prove to be rewarding for each and every student at Sylvan Hills Middle School as we continue to build on our successes and enhance our total school program. As you enjoy these summer months, I hope you will take a moment to join me in celebrating some of our successes from this year and in getting excited about what’s in store for the coming school year: Ø Our CRCT scores demonstrated that our students are learning each and every day and areachieving mastery and beyond in their course work. We increased the number of students who exceeded the CRCT this year in every subject area and at each grade level. Ø We sent our 8thgrade class off to high school with an 8th Grade Ceremony that celebrated their successes and honored them as the last 8th grade class in our current building. We wish our students the best of luck in high school and are confident that they are prepared to excel! Ø As we plan our schedule for next year, we look forward to offering Accelerated Math coursesfor 6th grade students, Honors courses at every grade level and inevery subject area, and student choice in their selection of Connections courses. This will allow us to continue to provide a rigorous and comprehensive middle school experience for each student. We want every student to return to us in August ready to continue their learning. It is not too late to enroll your student in a summer program. Our 21st Century Program is in session daily at Sylvan from 8:30-12:30, wrapping up on June 21. Additionally, the district’s Summer Academy is now in session at Price Middle school daily. Please call the school at 404-802-6200 if you would like additional information or simply bring your child to enroll in either of these programs which will give him/her a jumpstart on next year’s learning! Finally, please note that the first day of school is August 7,2013. Our school hours will be 9:05-4:05 which is a change from this year, so please plan accordingly. Bus route information will be available later in the summer. If you have not yet registered your child, please visit the school this summer. We are open in our current building daily until the end of June. Beginning in July, we will be in the Parks MS building. We expect all students to be registered BEFORE the first day of schoolon August 7th. Please stay tuned for more information to come on back to school events like New Student Orientation and Returning Student Meet and Greets which will occur in earlyAugust.
