Gifted and Talent Development Class
August 8, 2012
Hello Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the Gifted and Talented Program at D. H.Stanton and Benteen Elementary Schools. My name is Kia Stephens and I have worked with the Xanadu Summer Enrichment Program at Atlanta Public Schools for three years. I have also taught gifted learners within the general education classroom. With over twelve years of experience working with students in grades Pre-K through 8th, I bring a wealth of knowledge about engaging the mind of a child. I am looking forward to working closely with your son/daughter as we delve into rigorous learning. We will be engaging in several interdisciplinary units of study that will focus on the literacy component of the Common Core Georgia Performance Standards. Simultaneously, we will be focusing in depth on the four standards of the Gifted and Talented Program within Atlanta Public Schools: Advanced Communication Skills, Advanced Research Skills, Creative Thinking & Problem Solving, and Higher Order Thinking Skills. I am open to your feedback and involvement in our classroom. Please feel free to contact me via email or telephone. Additionally, I have created a gifted education website with pertinent information for D. H. Stanton and Benteen Elementary Schools. Please find the link below. Again, I look forward to working with you and know that my door is always open. Let's have an incredible school year!
