Message from the Principal

I am very excited to have the opportunity to become a part of the E. Rivers family. As I researched the school in preparation for the interview process, I was impressed by the tradition of excellent teaching and learning that has been cultivated at E. Rivers during its long history. This outstanding work is consistently reflected in the school’s academic scores, the strong, cohesive bonds between the school and its community, and the collaboration between the school, PTA and Foundation. These qualities are certainly indicators of a thriving and successful school!

To give you a bit of background about myself: I am a native Georgian and grew up in the metro Atlanta area, attending schools in Cobb, Gwinnett and Hall counties. I was raised in a family with six kids and I have a twin brother. I attended college in Georgia and Tennessee for my undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Education. Returning home, I continued my education at Georgia State University and received Masters degrees in professional counseling and school counseling, while at the same time teaching 5^thgrade in Cobb County. After completing my graduate work, I had the opportunity to join Fulton County Schools and spent the next ten years serving at Taylor Road Middle School, where I was a counselor for five years and an assistant principal for five years. For the last three years, I have served as the principal of Creek View Elementary School in Alpharetta.

As a new member of the E. Rivers school community, I wanted to share with you a few of my thoughts about teaching and learning. I believe that one of the most significant factors that contributes to student success is the relationship that is built between student and teacher and between the school and the home. Those relationships are built on trust and strengthened by consistent support, encouragement and open communication. Working together, we will achieve our goal of inspiring kids to love learning and motivating them on the path to become lifelong learners. I believe the role of principal, administrators, front office staff and every adult in the building is to:

1. Support the teaching and learning that is conducted in the classroom

2. Support the growth of positive and healthy relationships between teachers and students, in order to foster learning for all students at the highest levels

3. Facilitate the ongoing development of collaborative relationships among staff members, teachers and parents, and between the school and its community

I look forward to meeting with each of you, whether individually or in small groups, so we may get to know one another and share our passion for helping students reach their highest potential. You are also welcome to email me with any of your questions or concerns prior to our opportunity to meet in person.

Again, I am thrilled to be joining the E. Rivers community and I look forward to the relationships we will build, the challenges we will conquer and the successes that we will celebrate!

Estoy muy entusiasmado de tener la oportunidad de formar parte de la familia de E. Rivers. Cuando comencé ha aprender más sobre la escuela para prepararme para el proceso de entrevistas, me impresione con la tradición de excelencia de enseñanza y aprendizaje que se ha cultivado en E. Rivers durante su larga historia. Este gran trabajo es reflejado consistentemente en los resultados académicos de la escuela, los lazos cohesivos entre la escuela y su comunidad, y la colaboración entre la escuela, el PTA y la Fundación. ¡Estas características son indicadores de una escuela que esta prosperando y es exitosa!

Para contarles un poco sobre mi experiencia: Soy originalmente de acá de Georgia y crecí en Atlanta. Estudie en escuelas de los condados de Cobb, Gwinnett y Hall. Me críe en una familia con seis niños y tengo un hermano gemelo. Estudie en universidades en Georgia y Tennessee donde termine mis títulos de Psicología y Educación. Cuando regrese a casa, continúe mi educación en Georgia State University y recibí un titulo de Masters en consejero profesional y consejero de escuela, y al mismo tiempo estaba enseñando el 5^togrado en Cobb County. Después de terminar mi trabajo de posgrado, tuve la oportunidad de unirme al sistema escolar de Fulton County y trabaje diez años en la escuela Taylor Road Middle School, donde trabaje como consejero por cinco años y como director asistente por cinco años. Los últimos tres años, he trabajado como director en la escuela Creek View Elementary School en Alpharetta.

Como nuevo miembro nuevo de la comunidad de E. Rivers, quería compartir mis ideas sobre enseñanza y aprendizaje. Yo creo que uno de los factores más significantes que contribuyen al éxito de los alumnos es la relación que creamos entre el alumno y el maestro y entre la escuela y el hogar. Estas relaciones son basadas en confianza y fortalecidas con apoyo consistente, ánimo y comunicación. Trabajando juntos, podemos lograr nuestras meta de inspirar a los niños para que ellos quieran aprender y motivarlos para que tengan un camino para que sigan y aprendiendo durante toda la vida. Yo creo que el papel de director, administrador, personal de la oficina y todos los adultos dentro de la escuela es:

1. Apoyar la enseñanza y aprendizaje que se hace en la clase

2. Apoyar el desarrollo de relaciones saludables y positivas entre maestros y alumnos, para promover el aprendizaje de todos los alumnos al mayor nivel

3. Facilitar el desarrollo de relaciones de cooperación entre los miembros del personal, maestros y padres, y entre la escuela y la comunidad

Espero poder conocer a cada uno de ustedes, sea individualmente o en grupos pequeños, para poder conocernos y compartir la pasión que tenemos para ayudar ha que los alumnos lleguen a su máximo potencial. También los invito ha que me envíen un email si tienen preguntas o comentarios antes de conocerlos en persona.

¡De nuevo, estoy feliz de unirme a la comunidad de E. Rivers y espero formar relaciones, vencer los desafíos y celebrar los éxitos que tengamos!
