¡Hola todos! (Hello everyone!)

I am Ms. Davenport. It is my pleasure to be your child's Spanish teacher this year. I have been a student of Spanish for many years and a Spanish teacher for seven. I am self-taught, received several Spanish study certificates by attending continuing education classes at Emory University and the Latin American Association in Atlanta, GA; then earned my Spanish/Teacher Education degree from Georgia State University - graduating with highest honors (Summa Cum Laude).   Additionally, I have earned an ESOL endorsement which means that I am certified to teach English to students who speak another language.  I’m very excited about giving our students an introduction to the Spanish language and culture. It is my hope that they will develop an interest in studying this language, and - eventually - the desire to further their knowledge of a foreign language that in a few years could become the most spoken language in the United States – even above English!

Studying Spanish is fun; however, it is not studied “just for fun”. Research has shown that children who study a foreign language perform better in all other subjects, have higher self-esteem and increased “brain power”.  Please help me enlighten your child by explaining to him/her that their foreign language instruction is important and beneficial to them. You can do this by emphasizing good behavior, attention, participation and respect for each other as well as for the teacher during Spanish class. I trust that I may call on you throughout the year to help me with this if necessary. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
