I am Ms. Davenport. It is my pleasure to be your child's Spanish teacher this year. I have been a student of Spanish for many years and a Spanish teacher for seven. I am self-taught, received several Spanish study certificates by attending continuing education classes at Emory University and the Latin American Association in Atlanta, GA; then earned my Spanish/Teacher Education degree from Georgia State University - graduating with highest honors (Summa Cum Laude). Studying Spanish is fun; however, it is not studied “just for fun”. Research has shown that children who study a foreign language perform better in all other subjects, have higher self-esteem and increased “brain power”. Please help me enlighten your child by explaining to him/her that their foreign language instruction is important and beneficial to them. You can do this by emphasizing good behavior, attention, participation and respect for each other as well as for the teacher during Spanish class. I trust that I may call on you throughout the year to help me with this if necessary. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. You may contact me at dodavenport@atlanta.k12.ga.us if you have any questions or comments. Please feel free to visit our classroom occasionally, you can learn Spanish too! |
