Welcome to 7^th Grade Math

I’m Ms. Calhoun the 7^th grade math teacher at Kennedy Middle School. I am very excited to be your child’s teacher as we venture into a new and exciting school year. Our motto this year is Carpe Diem (Seize the Day) & YOLO (You Only Live Once) since we are making the most of every instructional minute and vow to not waste valuable instruction time we can never get back. We will live up to this motto daily as we abide the rules, standards, and high expectations set forth not only in my class, but Kennedy Middle and the Atlanta Public School System. With the transition to the new rigorous Common Core Standards, every student will be expected to learn on levels that will require them to think outside the norm and apply mathematics to everyday, real-world situations. This drives my belief that every child deserves a high quality education and I count it a privilege to serve the students at Kennedy Middle School as they accomplish their goal of mastering 7^th grade mathematics. I love the quote by Ignacio Estrada that says “If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.” This inspires me to be available to assist you and your child in any way possible and do what I can to guide them to success in 7^th grade math and beyond.
