Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends,

I am very excited about welcoming you to another year of teaching and learning. My name is Sheila Cartwright, and this is my third year as the media specialist at Burgess-PetersonAcademy. We have an exceptional year planned for our students.

This year we will still focus on acquiring new resources to help enhance the classroom curriculum and promote a love of reading. We will be introducing e-books to our collection, which will diversify our collection and extend our library hours beyond the school day. With access to a computer, laptop, smartphone, e-book reader, or ipad and Internet access, students will be able to read books online. E-books are a way to broaden our collection and eliminate the costs associated with lost, damaged, and stolen books.

Classes will be offered to our students on how to use the Media Center’s online catalog, TLC, which can be accessed at aps.tlcdelivers.com. Students will have the ability to access the school library catalog system from any computer that has Internet access.

We will continue to celebrate our use of Accelerated Reader to encourage our students to READ and to monitor their comprehension skills.

I will also continue to collaborate with the classroom teachers to assist them acquire supplementary resources to support their classroom instruction and to incorporate more technology into their instruction to align with the new Common Core Georgia Performance Standards.

I am looking forward to meeting all of you and assisting teachers with their classroom instruction.
