Engineering and Early College Small Learning Community

Instructional Approach

The Engineering Early College (E2C) Small Learning Community curriculum is designed to assist students in developing skills necessary to succeed in rigorous, relevant coursework that will provide a framework for preparation for college and post-graduate work. By the end of their senior year, students may achieve two years of college credit.

Goals

Provide academic courses that meet high school graduation and college entrance requirements
Prepare students for completion of a project that brings together skills acquired from academic and career classes
Provide advisement and counseling to ensure that students have a post-secondary plan
Provide mentoring and job shadowing opportunities in career fields

Objectives

To meet Georgia Performance Standards
To develop college orientation
To inspire socially and civically literate students
To establish clear and concise post-collegiate goals

Program of Study

In addition to the core program of study, students will be required to take the following classes to meet the requirements of the E2C Small Learning Community:

Early College Seminar
Early College Math
Early College English
Early College Social Studies
Early College Science
Electronics
AC/DC Circuitry
Foundation of Electronics

Competencies

Students will know and be able to apply knowledge to solving real-world problems.
Students will demonstrate effective communication and writing skills.
Students will demonstrate employability skills.
Students will be able to perform human relations skills.
Students will learn to identify engineering fundamentals.
Students will maintain a portfolio required by Atlanta Public Schools.
