Meet the Principal
July 1, 2011
Dear Parents, Guardians and Students,
I am honored and excited, to be appointed as the new Principal of South Atlanta School of Computer Animation and Design (CAD). It is with great pride and humility that I accept this tremendous responsibility and important opportunity.
CAD has earned some of the most celebrated honors in APS, and is quickly becoming a model school within the district. CAD was the only APS high school to achieve 100% of its district targets and AYP in 2010, and was recently recognized as the Atlanta Art School of the Year, High School Division, for the third consecutive year. CAD senior Maurice Hickman won first place at the AIA Engineering Design competition (the first African American student to win) with 83 metro area schools competing. CAD Teacher Courtney Bryant was recognized as the 2011 CTAE District Teacher of the Year. Both the Boys Varsity Basketball Team and the JROTC programs are recognized nationally for excellence in their respective areas. These successes demonstrate our students’ academic potential and the tireless dedication of our teachers, parents and support staff.
I began my career with Atlanta Public Schools at Frederick Douglass High School, where I served as a Social Studies teacher, Basketball Coach and Student Government Association Sponsor. I later served as Assistant Principal at the New Schools at Carver and the South Atlanta Educational Complex. I received both my Bachelor and Master’s degrees from Clark Atlanta University, my Specialist Degree from Georgia State University and my School Leadership Certification from Kennesaw State University. Additionally, I recently completed the Superintendent’s Academy for Building Leaders in Education (SABLE) Program, a rigorous and highly competitive two-year program designed to prepare administrators and aspiring administrators for positions as principals and district leaders. I have a beautiful family that is extremely supportive of my work. My wife Julie and I have one son, Anderson.
It is my firm belief that all children can learn at high levels, and that all children have the fundamental right to a good education, which will provide them with access to a better quality of life, a higher standard of living and an opportunity to compete in a global society. Our goal at CAD is to provide rigorous, relevant, engaging and personalized learning experiences that prepare all students for college and 21st century careers. It is through collaboration with teachers, parents and community partners that we will ensure the success of all of our students. South Atlanta CAD has a stellar history, and the past four years under the leadership of Principal Scott Painter has enabled the school community to make even greater gains. I have an open door policy, and I am always open to meeting with teachers, students and members of the community to hear their questions, concerns, and feedback for the school. I look forward to earning your trust and respect, as we move together toward another productive school year.
Mr. Jarod M. Scott
Principal, South Atlanta CAD
