Welcome to Ms. Towns' and Mr. Bishop's Kindergarten Class!

Greetings Everyone!!!

I am Vonetta Towns, a kindergarten teacher at Perkerson Elementary. I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA and I am a proud product of the Atlanta Public Schools System. I am a graduate of Albany State University with a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education. I believe all children have the ability to learn and with the skills that I have acquired I am honored to be able to teach the future leaders of tomorrow!

     My mission for my class is to develop my student's reading, writing, and math skills to his/her fullest potential while creating a positive safe learning environment where the student will flourish not only academically but socially as well. In our class all learning styles are addressed and students get to participate in engaging activities.
    Technology is infused in the curriculum that is being taught as much as possible through our daily routines and lessons. Already, students have learned to work in cooperative groups in order to foster teamwork. Higher order thinking skills are also incorporated in all subjects, concepts, and skills taught.
    Lastly, it is extremely important to have open lines of communication with parents so that we can work together as a team in the intellectual growth and development of our children, and to promote the fundamentals of responsibility and accountability students should have in order to succeed.

Unit 12: Buggy About Spring!!!

During the first part of this unit your child will be introduced to a variety of animals that crawl, slither, and fly. We will focus on insects' characteristics, behaviors, and habitats.
The second part of the unit will focus on you child will learn about the cyclic nature of the seasons, building on what they learned in the fall and winter units!
We encourage you to READ with your child each day to reinforce the pleasure and enjoyment to be found in books, as well as to reinforce the new skills your child has been learning in school!!

In math we are beginning Unit 6: Addition and Subtraction

Please work with you child daily practicing counting and simple addition and subtraction problems. We will practice addition and subtraction with story problems, Tap and Tally numbers, and basic facts.
