Taking A Look Back...

Dr. Susan Crim-McClendon

Greetings All:

At Carter G. Woodson Elementary School and in Atlanta Public Schools, our children areour greatest resource. Every student has the right to be academicallysuccessful. Every teacher has the capacity to meet the needs of every studentin every classroom. In order for every child to achieve academic success atWoodson there must be collaboration between all stakeholders: the students, thecommunity, the parents, the teachers and the administration.

The focus at Woodson is excellence, academic success and the well-being of everystudent. My father, Dr. Alonzo A. Crim, believed that “to empower the children least-served in urban schools we mustempower the teachers”. To ensure studentsuccess the teachers will be empowered and supported as they plan and delivercompelling lessons, provide critical feedback and support students as theyreach high academic levels.

The mighty Masai warriors greet each other by asking “How are the children?". The traditional response is “All the childrenare well.” At Woodson, we continuouslyask ourselves “How are the children?” Collectively, we truthfully respond “Allthe children are well.” Thank you in advance for keeping the focus on thechildren. They deserve excellence.

Best,

Dr.Susan Crim McClendon

We envision a positive, safe and nurturing student-focused environment and curriculum where supportive staff, parents, students, partners, and the community are invested in academic excellence, that fosters critical thinkers who are challenged to become contributing citizens, international leaders and catalysts for positive societal change.
